What is the Social Fee? Every year, the Poolesville Swim team sponsors events including a pizza party, pep rallies, an ice cream social, a spaghetti dinner and awards for the swimmers. The funding for these items DOES NOT come from the county, but rather from separate funds created by the swim team. There are a few ways we generate funds: Concessions, swim apparel (although apparel is sold pretty much at cost) and something called a "Social Fee.” The Social Fee is $20 for one swimmer or $25 per family. It provides initial capital to use for equipment, concessions, advance swim suit purchases, and additional ribbons. This year we will extend the ribbons awarded to 12th place for both the A and B meets. We ask that the Social Fee please be covered within the first week of practice. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Amy Hsu. What are Time Trials? Time trials are held before the start of the season to establish a “seed time” for each swimmer. These times are used to prepare the line-up for the first A meet. Keep in mind that the line-up for Saturday’s meet can change every week depending on times from the B meet, swimmer availability, etc. Be sure to check the posted line-up each week. Time Trials will be held on June 9. What if my swimmer misses a week for camp or vacation? We understand swimmers have other activities. However, please let Coach Auer know your swimmer will be gone by placing a notice in his folder, or sending an e-mail. If my swimmer isn’t in the A meet, is he required to attend? All swimmers and their families are welcome to attend any meet, especially home meets, to cheer on their teammates, but it is not required. Team members should be supervised by their parents. |
What parent involvement is needed? Great question! Our team is successful only through the hard work of volunteers who come and work each and every meet to ensure that everything that needs to be done to run a successful meet is taken care of. For each meet, each team must provide: 1 Referee/Starter 2-3 Stroke and Turn officials 1 Head Timer/ Assistant Head Timer 9 - 12 Timers 2 Clerk of Course 6 - 8 Concessions (home meets) 1 Announcer (home meets) 1 Computer Operator 2 Runners 1 Ribbon Writer Some of these positions require certification, but many, such as timing, do not and training is provided on the spot! It is important to note that during Time Trials, there is no second team to provide half of the personnel. Therefore, we need every family with a swimmer at Time Trials to help in some capacity. Outside of the meets we need help organizing and running the social events and spirit committee. Please see the Poolesville Piranha website, www.poolesvilleswimteam.us for more information, and for a complete copy of the team handbook.
